Electric Quilt

May Doodles

This month we have chosen a very traditional block – Kansas Troubles – again with simple piecing and lots of movement. The EQ Library default colouring is just red, deep pink and an off-white background which we think adds to the graphic impact of the block when set together.

Adding a narrow sashing in the background fabric, cornerstones and a modest border makes a little more space and framing for the blocks.

The blocks appear more “closed off” with the same narrow sashing but in the darker colour

Making the sashings wider gives a heavier appearance –

Revert to the narrow sashing and add a darker border – notice how the light cornerstones lift the overall effect.

Setting on point gives an entirely different look, in this instance it seems to reduce the feeling of movement in the block –

An experiment with a wider, medium value sashing – probably not too successful!
