Weather in Staffordshire fresh (local euphemism for raw cold) and frosty – temperature inside village hall not a great deal better despite our efforts. A gremlin in the new heating system seems to have left the main thermostat set to 14degrees C and no way to override it. Quilters are nothing if not courageous and hardy and so we set to work. Chris showed 3 different ways of arriving at an appliqued circle, 3 different ways of creating a shadow to the circle and 3 different ways of achieving a mitred corner for an Attic Window setting for blocks. An added bonus was her late-night brainwave idea for making shadowed pieced or applique blocks – a synchronised chorus of “oooh” was her reward! To keep spirits and body temperatures up we served lots of tea, coffee, biscuits and cake and by the end of the day everyone had achieved great 3D effects.
This is the book that got Chris started on playing with 3D –
and this is Chris’s class sample (wonder if she’ll get it finished now? – B)
and here’s some of the work done in class –
Well done everyone!
